Chuck D Visits the University of Puget Sound

According to Ernest Jasmin over on the Bring the Noise blog, it's recently been confirmed that hip-hop legend and scholar Chuck D is scheduled to appear on February 4th at the University of Puget Sound. To be clear, this is a speaking engagement only, and not a performance as the university is bringing him here for Black History Month.

I've interviewed Chuck D in the past and the guy is a genius. He's also very accessible unlike so many other rap figures from yesteryear that haven't managed to drop their egos. While he isn't a pioneer of hip-hop as a genre, his contributions to rap's lexicon are endless and still continue to this day. His Public Enemy material, kicked open the door for "conscious rappers" to be accepted in the marketplace before groups like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul made the style more popular. With Chuck, he lives and breathes rap culture so he's a perfect person to come and (hopefully) speak about the way hip-hop and black identities are so heavily intertwined at the moment.
