Capt. Strata & Jimi Hendrix's Love of Comics

strata.jpg

Jimi Hendrix's boyhood friend Jimmy Williams, CEO of the Renton-based Jimi Hendrix Foundation (a nonprofit started by Jimi's late father, Al, that is not to be confused with the "official" Hendrix enterprises of Jimi's stepsister, Janie), has developed a comic book character, Captain Strata (so named for the Fender Stratocaster), that he is seeking financial backing for. Lest you think this is another shameless ploy to exploit the late guitar god's image commercially (remember Hendrix Vodka?), Hendrix was a lifelong cartoon/comic fan, and penned a ditty called "Astro Man" late in his career. Hence, had Capt. Strata appeared in the comic books of Jimi's youth, he might have been a fan.
