Langerado Music Festival Gets Cancelled

The unfortunate rumors swirling around the internet for the past few days are true. Today, the good folks behind South Florida's popular Langerado Music Festival have announced they are nixing the festival just five weeks before it was scheduled to take place, March 6-8 in Miami.

Although the three day festival, which would have been in its sixth year and was growing a strong national presence, is geographically far away from us in Seattle, this is a very bad sign for music fests all over the country. Poor ticket sales and a bad economy are being sited as the causes the concert was scraped. According to Ethan Schwartz, the main face behind Langerado, who I've interviewed several times, Langerado took in 4.3 million dollars last year. And that was when gas was topping $4 dollars a gallon. As far as music festivals go, this cancellation proves that the economy is definitely in it's "getting worse before it gets better" stage right now.

The major names on the festival included:

Death Cab for Cutie, Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy, Modest Mouse, Deerhunter, Broken Social Scene, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals, Girl Talk, Tortoise, Bad Brains, the Pogues, George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic, Tokyo Police Club, the Faint, Tricky, King Khan and the Shrines, Murs, Chromeo, Cloud Cult, the Postmarks, the Virgins, Ra Ra Riot, DeVotchKa, Against Me!, Black Kids, Holy Fuck, the Gaslight Anthem, Cold War Kids, and Thievery Corporation.

Info about ticket refunds is posted on Langerado's site. Let's hope the Northwest economy stay strong enough for us to not deal with the same issues as festival seasons gets started later on this year.
