Artifakt presents Jacob London

Seattle is definitely a music Mecca, but a club town? Nah, don't think so. What passes for DJ-centric nightlife here would leave clubbers hurrying for the exits in search of a real dance floor in other American cities of comparable size and cultural prestige.

Into this void has stepped arts-collective Artifakt, a merry band of folks hell-bent on serving up healthy dollops of fashion, visual art, and live music--especially hip-hop and electronica--under one pulsating roof. And beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, at The Sole Repair Shop (1001 E. Pike St. Seattle), the gang will add another event to its calendar: the RSVP-only Signature Gallery series.

The inaugural installment focuses on "abstract and representational figurative art from Northwest artists" set to a soundtrack by locally-based electronic act Jacob London. The duo (real names: Bob Hansen and Dave Pezzner) released their first album, Hydrogenated Funk, in 1998. Since then, the guys have emerged as an electro-funk act tinged with a tongue-and-cheek experimentation that jiggles and wiggles with comedy--a much-needed element in the often too-serious world of house music. (Take home test: Name one electronic act with song titles such as "Horses Eat Mostly Grass" and "Pull Up Your Pants.")
