Neil Young Partners with MySpace for Music Video Release

• Hmm... Well, as with anything Neil-related, I have a million different thoughts. One: Love that raw guitar tone! Sounds like his amp's caked in machine grease and running on diesel (or, rather, biodiesel). Two: That's an awesomely dirty groove Neil and the band worked up. Three: The song is pretty half-baked, especially lyrically. But he can (and will) do what he wants. Four: It's always iffy when Neil goes topical. The man is a fucking space-case who, from everything I've read, doesn't live in the same world we do. He lives in Neil-land (aka Hippie Xanadu), which is why most of his records rule! But it's also why his "current affairs" songs are usually so odd and weirdly informed...like having your stoner uncle call you to rant about what he just saw on CNN. Five: Teaming up with Myspace doesn't seem too out-of-character. No different from him jumping into music videos for MTV in the 80s. Not to mention, MTV wouldn't play the video today anyway, so it's kind of a no-brainer. HOWEVER, if he had teamed up with Myspace and sold the song to American Express THAT would be weird (and inexcusable). Six: The video itself is funny. Very Neil. It could be a little more dynamic, but I'm just happy they went the humor route and didn't splice in cheesy stock footage of Bernie Madoff in handcuffs or anything like that. Seven: This video will make the hipsters cringe. But Neil isn't afraid to embarrass himself, which makes him cooler than most everyone on the planet.
