Jeremy Jay, Wallpaper, Cosmetics at Sunset Tavern, 9 p.m., $7

Were you a Cure freak in high school? You'll probably like K Records artist Jeremy Jay (pictured), who makes this sort of lo-fi New Wave music that manages not to be painfully derivative, as so many contemporary incarnations of "New Wave" tend to sound. Wallpaper, on the other hand, is another great K Recs band that I wrote about a little while back because I really love their 60s garage band sound. As in, they sometimes remind me of The Kinks, only more jaded.

Peelander-Z, Android Hero, Le Shat Noir, Dark Matter Noise at Funhouse, 9:30 p.m., $7

Peelander-Z resides in New York City, but refer to their sound as Japanese action comic punk, which is probably a better description than anything I could come up with on the fly. Their songs are loud, fast, and often consist of screaming the same phrase over and over, like "Handsome," which involves repeating, "ugly ugly ugly ugly handsome! handsome handsome handsome." It will make your heart smile. We also love local punk rock (or, if you will, shitcore) band Le Shat Noir, whose praises Ma'chell has sung regularly in our paper.

And like every (or most) Tuesdays, Lonesome Shack does his rootsy blues thing at Cafe Racer starting around 8 p.m.; that, friends, is absolutely free.
