I sincerely hope every single person reading this is blazing a fatty right now (and if not, that you'll have the opportunity soon). Actually, I meant to post this way sooner...but in true stoner fashion, I forgot. Here is a handful of songs about weed that I love. Of course, there are more. Many more. Neil Young is to weed as chocolate is to peanut butter.

Holly Golightly - Getting High For Jesus

This song comes from Holly Golightly & the Brokeoffs' Dirty Don't Hurt, an album that is worth having for many reasons, not least among them this song.

Pavement - In The Mouth A Desert

I am not too sure, but I think this song is probably about cottonmouth.

Black Mountain - Stormy High

No stoner should be without a copy of In The Future. Any critic worth their salt will include this list of required listening for marijuana consumers.

Bessie Smith - Give Me A Reefer

I've been struggling to think of more than a handful of women who've ever sung songs about pot, but damn if Bessie Smith didn't do it all the way back in 1933. Though she certainly wasn't the only rad blueswoman who sung about the ganj, nobody could belt one out like Bessie, and I bet no one could smoke like Bessie, either.

Talib Kweli and Kanye West - Get 'Em High

Two of our generation's best MCs, rapping about smoking weed. Also..."I don't usually smoke," my ass. Who do you think you're fooling? NOBODY.

Mac Dre - Every Damn Day I Smoke Dank

There are many Mac Dre songs worthy of this list, but this is the one I always know all the words to, even when I'm too stoned to remember my address.

Band of Horses - Weed Party

This song is for mellower evenings. Not evenings when you're trying to get pumped up so you can stay awake for the party you were supposed to be at, like, two hours ago.

Gillian Welch - Wrecking Ball

In this song, the weed, as she recalls, was like a wrecking ball. I could've come up with weed-ier songs, but none that are as beautiful or as well-loved by myself as this one.
