Last Night: The Ting Tings @ The Crocodile

Fuck taking it easy on a Sunday night. The reverent crowd guzzled beer and clapped along to all of The Ting Tings' infectious songs at last night's sold out show. (I killed half a bottle of Trader Joe's wine before I even got there.)

England's sexy punk-dance duo, comprised of Katie White and Jules De Martino, performed a short and sweet set that clocked in at an hour. They had, after all, just their 10-track debut album We Started Nothing to draw material from.

"We have one requirement this evening and it's that you dance," White told the crowd before laughingly recalling that only 14 people showed up the first time she and De Martino played Seattle.

In the months since, The Ting Tings have attracted plenty of attention, thanks to cheeky tunes like "Shut Up and Let Me Go" and "That's Not My Name," both of which reached top 10 on Billboard dance charts.

Manchester's fast rising stars didn't interact directly with the crowd very often, but kept everyone entertained as they powered through countless high energy chanted choruses, funky guitar rifts, and quirky piano melodies. On slower songs like "Traffic Light," White proved she has the chops to do more than just shout winsome one-liners into the microphone.

The Ting Tings capped off the night with an encore consisting of "Impacilla Carpisung" (not sure why, it's by far the weakest track on the album) and the saucy anthem "That's Not My Name" to the approval of their fans.

Maybe the half bottle of wine had something to do with it, but it was a pretty good Sunday night. Ting Tings can put on a hell of a live show. And hot damn, that Katie White looks even better in person than she does photos.
