Happy Birthday to the Godfather of Soul

For those that don't already know, May 3rd is the birthday for the late great James Brown. And even though there's just a few minutes left today, I'm dedicating it to the Godfather of Soul. The man pioneered a sound of funk and afro-soul so powerful, the entire world owes him a might debt of gratitude. Although he was wild and crazy, animated and unpredictable, he made music like a god and took the stage as if he'd been shot out of cannon every night. Most folks know Brown's music from the days after he got famous, but it's some of the early footage of him grinding away on the chittlin' circus that always impressed me the most.

Anybody that considers themselves a true James Brown fan should watch all 3:47 of this video to get a real feel for why Brown was such a great showman. And after the jump, check out one of my favorite James Brown clips of ALL TIME.
