Meet Robert Jones: The Showbox's Tenured Misfit
Nigerian juju legend King Sunny Ade is headed to Seattle and playing the Triple Door on June 29th. While most people are familiar with Afrobeat lions like Tony Allen, Fela Kuti, and Orlando Julius, Ade's name still doesn't draw the attention from mainstream audiences that it should. And that's a shame because at the height of his popularity in the 1980s, Ade was arguably more popular within Nigeria than all three other names combined.
His guitar heavy style of upbeat, afro-pop grooves was known for touching the hearts of Nigerians at home and abroad--and to this day, you'll be hard pressed to enter a Nigerian household that doesn't have any King Sunny Ade albums within it.
I haven't seen a price for tickets yet, but when they go on sale officially, I'll let folks know. After the jump, check out one of my favorite King Sunny Ade tracks, "Ja Fun Mi" and stay tuned for more info on this show.
