Wayman Tisdale, the former Oklahoma basketball star and NBA veteran who started up a successful smooth jazz career, has died. He's been battling cancer for a couple years, something he wrote about openly on his Web site.

Tisdale was scheduled to play a benefit concert next Friday at Benaroya Hall, along with several other smooth jazzers, to raise money for the Jackson Street Music Program.

An only-semi-tongue-in-cheek appreciation of Tisdale was penned by a certain SW contributor last year.
