Five Weekend Shows for $5 and Under
FRIDAY
Carbon Leaf at Easy Street Records, 6 p.m., free, all ages
Yeah, you could pay $25 at the Showbox tonight, or you could see Carbon Leaf play their melodic, heartfelt songs from their latest, Nothing Rhymes With Woman, for free at Easy Street. Your choice.
SATURDAY
Emma Hill and her Gentleman Callers, In the Drink, Whiskey Romance at the Skylark Cafe, 9 p.m., free
Portland songwriter Emma Hill's tender folk songs ache with emotion. If you're in the mood for roots music, you won't find a better show in the city-- and this one's free.
The Valkyries, the Heels at the Bit Saloon, 9 p.m.
Admittedly, I'm not sure how much this show costs, but it's at the Bit, so I really doubt it's gonna be more than $5 or so. And even if it's more than that, it'll be worth it to see a couple of Seattle's finest female punk rock bands get rowdy.
SUNDAY
Angelo Spencer at Mr. Spot's Chai House, 7 p.m., all ages, free
K Records vet Angelo Spencer makes a stop at Mr. Spot's, and I promise you, it's gonna be a freaky rock and roll time.
Thee Satisfaction at the Lo-Fi, 9 p.m. $5
We love the badass ladies of Thee Satisfaction, and $5 is a pittance to witness such talent on the mic. Sure, it's Sunday, but no time is a bad time for hip hop.
