Last Night: The Wallflowers @ Showbox

The Wallflowers played The Showbox at the Market on Sunday, June 21, 2009.
The Wallflowers played to a surprisingly spare crowd at the Showbox last night. Undeterred, the bluesy rock band delivered a flawless 90-minute set that pulled almost entirely from their recently released greatest hits album, Collected: 1996-2005.

Twenty minutes into the set, frontman Jakob Dylan engaged a drunk female fan in a conversation from behind the mic.

JD: Is that a forty?
Lady: It's a sixty!
JD: Is there such a thing?
Lady: I found it!
JD: [laughs] This is Seattle, right?

...Not the most flattering representation of our city, but oh well. Better than nothing. There were far stranger folks--including the dude rave dancing for almost the entire night--that he could've picked on.

Dylan, much like his legendary father, has a gravelly drawl that makes him sound as though he stayed up the night before smoking an entire carton of cigarettes--and I mean that in a good way.

The Wallflowers played a slew of favorites, including "Letters from the Wasteland," "Three Marlenas," and "The Difference" to the delight of the small but enthusiastic crowd. And, here's a flashback to the summer of 1998 below a la "One Headlight." (It's the acoustic version, as the record label's made it impossible for me to embed the original music video... fuckers.)
