New Jaguar Love video: "I Started A Fire"

Categories: Music Video

Portland's Jaguar Love has released a spastic, low-tech, hipster dance-filled video for the band's newest single, "I Started A Fire." This song is part of the band's attempt to reinvent itself after losing drummer (and former Pretty Girls Make Graves guitarist) Jay Clark in February.

Since then, Jaguar Love has been a two-piece, comprised of former Blood Brothers and Seattle natives Johnny Whitney and Cody Votolato. They've stopped performing all but three songs off 2008's Take Me to the Sea, and instead are working on new material that Whitney describes as "kind of Daft Punk meets New Order meets Black Flag" on the band's MySpace.

So far, the band is meeting Whitney's prediction. "I Started A Fire" is super poppy: Clark's drumming has been replaced by drum machine beats that mimic handclaps. And Whitney seems to be singing more often, and using his trademark dying-cat squeal only on the choruses. But the music still channels the Blood Brothers: dark and aggressive at times, employing macabre synthesizers.

Jaguar Love is currently on tour and won't return to Washington until September to play the Puyallup Fair.
