Two Important Reggae Shows Announced
One of my favorite young talents coming out of Jamaica right now is Etana. Her style isn't straight ahead reggae but more like soulful crooning with a reggae groove underneath it. I've seen her perform live twice and she's one of the best pure singers that I've encountered in awhile. The last time I watched her sound check before a show in the Bahamas, I literally got chills. And she's equally alluring in person and very humble. So if you enjoy the feminine side of reggae music, take note that Etana will be performing at the Columbia City Theater on Thursday, July 9. If you're more into the romantic, rub-a-dub side of reggae, know that the king of lovers rock, Beres Hammond is set to play at Studio 7 on Tuesday, August 18. Anybody that considers themselves a true fan of Jamaican music should know who Beres Hammond is. In my opinion, he's got the best singing voice in reggae (bar none) and his music is so romantic (think of him as the Jamaican version of Frankie Beverly or Luther Vandross) that his tunes are probably responsible for more child births in the Caribbean than any other musician.
