Deadmau5 Announces New Album and Tour

I respect Canadian electronic music jock/producer/phenom Deadmau5, if for no other reason than he helped make it OK for DJs to, you know, move when they're performing, something many of the European scarecrows on the circuit could stand to learn. A hero to pasty bedroom jocks clicking on their laptops the world over, the Mau5 has been on a rampage since 2006, when his tracks began hitting the No. 1 slot on Beatport.com. He's also a touring machine who uses systems--video, sound, lighting--to take his audiences to places many either refuse, or don't think, to tread. It's full-metal jacket shit.

Nevertheless, his first disc, 2008's Random Album Title, did little for me--especially when viewed in the context of his lively live sets. It was a staid effort that left me with rainbow streaks of bored tears. So sad. But, despite the continuation of wink-wink ironic titles, that doesn't mean I'm unexcited to hear his follow-up, For Lack of a Better Name , when it comes out Sept. 22 on Ultra. And, barring a kidney stone or some other ailment, I'll be at Showbox at the SODO for his Oct. 3 performance. There, his Random trespasses shall be forgiven. Check out the video below for a Guy Ritchie-like take from the Mau5 and another road-hog jock, Kaskade:
