Nancy Pelosi Puts a Stop to the Michael Jackson Bill
In case you haven't heard the news already, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi killed House Resolution 600 aka the "Michael Jackson Bill" late last week stating emphatically that she didn't think it was necessary. That's a controversial decision that is already causing contradictory views on the web, and one that almost seems to have as much to do with Jackson, as it does with Democratic Representative Sheila Jackson-Lee who hurriedly introduced the Bill during MJ's memorial service last week.![]()
I personally think Jackson-Lee was grandstanding to a large extent by trying to introduce a piece of legislature at a funeral -- especially one that was being internationally televised -- but that's politics. So I'm not totally surprised that it was shot down by Pelosi, but her decision is undoubtedly tied to lingering allegations of Jackson's child molestation history. And the issue isn't going away. Over the next months, there will most likely be a push for official commemorative monuments, honors and a national stamp for Jackson. This is defeat number one, but hopefully a more organized effort comes along to properly honor the world's greatest international pop star.

What I don't understand is WHY we (being Hollywierd) have to honor Michael Jackson. OK, he was WAYYY famous, but lets be real shall we.... He was a singer, he sold lots of records worldwide, he had a F***ed up childhood which destroyed his ability to have healthy adult relationships. He sang to Cancer kids and took them to his private carnival. In the last several years he bilked various Princes and stuff for millions, but could not raise the willpower to tour (or make another album) to pay anyone back.
With all the REAL heroes dying everyday for our freedoms and liberty and this is the person you want to honor? Where did the "good ol' US of A" go, because this soap opera is NOT my country.

I'm personally quite tired of hearing about Michael Jackson. I don't believe he is the world's greatest international pop star. I am sympathetic to the life he led. He had very deep personal issues. I acknowledge that he touched the live's of many, but keep in mind it was not always in a positive light. Further, the media has more significant matters to report and should be focused on helping shed light on the current economic turmoil, outting the people who are abusing the system, those who are using loop holes and committing exorbent spending in the name of the 'government and the people'. The foreseen "push for official commemorative monuments, honors and a national stamp for Jackson" should not only be turned down if for no other reason but saving money but those who lead these 'pushes' should be repremended for wasting everyones time and money.

Get over it, please. He was an extremely talented artist. He made very poor decisions and although never convicted, it is universally accepted that he did molest children. Any legislation to honor him for more than what he was (a great musician) would be terribly wrong. So, please. No more talk of a national commemorative stamp, monuments, or additional honors for him.
You don't see any statues built up for other criminals, do you?

A jury found him innocent.
His accuser's a history of fraud and fradulent suing (JC penny Case ). Weak california anti suing laws and rich pop stars make a bad combo.
You have to step into his shoes and can't judge him with your standard of life as being normal because its relative. Plus the fact that MJ never backs down from doing something as long as it doesn't hurt people didn't go well in our sometimes judgemental pro conservative culture.

Well, as far as his molestation charge goes ... hard to say if he really was a perve. On the one hand, he was loaded and kinda creepy - so he was an obvious target for anyone looking for money through a lawsuit (which they all did) and he was never actually found guilty.
On the other hand, he admittedly had at the very least some inappropriate relationships with children - sleeping in the same bed and such.
He was a pretty f*$ked up individual due to his horrible childhood, so he may very well have been honestly reliving the childhood he never had and he was not exactly a sexual person ... he never even fathered his own kids.
All things being equal, I don't think he needs to be officially honoured - at least not right now. 20 years in the future you can revisit the idea.

Even IF MJ never really molested a child, and even IF he was truly a warm and caring person, and even IF you accept that he was the greatest musician/performer ever... what of it? How many amazing, talented, warm, caring, giving performers throughout history have existed, and we don't have some sort of national recognition for them? Why for MJ?
Better we should honor those who matter to America - war veterans, doctors, nurses, teachers, fireman, policemen, emergency personal, coaches, etc.
MJ had quite a following, but he was no John Lennon, no Elvis, no Beatle. When I think of songs like "Imagine", "The long and winding road", etc. Well, Billy Jean doesn't compare.
Anyway, the point is, he's no national treasure, and NO ONE is disputing that he died from massive abuse of prescription drugs, so he's no role model either, so let's not make him into one just because people are crying over a guy that could dance funky.

Just wanna make one point. All life is precious, but not all life is celebrated after it ends. MJ was famous at one point in his life, i will never personally know if he diddled the kids or not. And mabey he was never convicted of anything, but lets remember the first time. He paid that family 20 million dollars. He made a twenty million dollar mistake. And when your rich and have nothing to be guilty of, you don't pay people to go away, you hire the best lawyers money can buy, put the switch on them, and sue the family for slander and extortion. No he messed up, and being a father myself, who works two jobs, is not rich, pays my taxes, and doesn't diddle kids, if i don't get a memorial when i die, he shouldn't either. I'm not sour, just annoyed that he died the same day Pharah did, who died of CANCER,(not an O.D.) who was a normal person, sex symbol icon, and we heard nothing. While being force fed stuff about the once black, now white Jesus, who was good at dancing. F*** that, bye Michael, god has you now. May he forgive you for your googley, moogley self.

Don't make up doggy doo doo, pro molestation did I say that?
Stick with the facts we don't need people making doo doo up.
People just make stuff up like that and just assume so easily. But doesn't the fact that without any shred of evidence someone you know can call the police and accuse you of something and the cops will raid your house, trash it, put you in iron cuffs, rough you up because who's going to know behind closed doors. LA cops have always been pretty corrupt if you know your history. It's just less so than before. Anyways doesn't that bother you that we have a system like that?
Without any evidence that can happen to you. How would you feel if they busted down your door doing that with no evidence at all except some body just decides to call up the police and say that you did to them. Follow the money and you'll 99% of the time get to the truth. I mean are you saying that people would actually be bought off after molesting their kid? I wouldn't not for a billion dollars, I wouldn't be able to sleep. Because you know they will do it again. The fact that they took the money and that the mother called the Lawyer before calling the cops just makes seem really discrediting.

@kenbo......
First of all the system is what it is. Jacked up it may be, the cops can go in to your house and arrest your ass for a valid reason. If crazy Michael wasn't hanging out with kids in the first place, (like a normal, non sexual creep adult) then the cops would not have any valid reason to go near him. The fact is that there was some validity toward what was going on. And if your not rich and your going to take on someone thats worth 200 million dollars. I think it would be smart to talk to a lawyer first. Personally i would have killed the prick myself. But thats just me. The family probably figured that a lot more good would have come from the guys money to make the life their kid is going to have to live easy, and TO PAY THE EXTENSIVE THERAPY HE WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH IN ORDER TO BE A NORMAL PERSON AFTER BEING DIDDLED BY A CREEPY POP STAR.

You know Edgar Allan Poe married his 13 year old cousin.
Alot of people now adays would judge that as being perverse since Poe was 26 or so. But thats how society was at the time. In the end he loved her endlessly and it shone in his poetry in writing. There was no perversion in that. So don't go jumping the gun and be so judgemental. Its the same way with Michael he had a different environment and upbringing than the rest of us so it's pretty judgemental to say he's obviously weird for having sleep overs at the age of 37 or 40. If this was a woman who slept in the same bed with other children who was white and went to church and was very conservative and did the typical church thing, would she be treated this way that Michael has? If mother theresa slept in the same bed with children would people make a big deal about this like the way they did for Michael? I don't think so.
But if you see it as I'm having a sleep over with my friends and I'm 12 yrs old on the inside. Does it seem that weird?

And even if you had a bad child hood, there is a sense of right and wrong. And im sorry, there is a difference between a grown woman, who has motherly instincts, and a grown ass man, sleeping with pre-teen boys in their bed. The fact that we're in a recession is reason enough to not put money towards this idea. If he was a former president or war hero, yeah, I can see us spending some money to commemorate him. But he was a singer. No more, no less. If his family wants to build a statue or something to him, that's fine, but we shouldn't be spending money we don't have on something stupid like this. I used to think that MJ maybe did it too. But the more and more I looked at the evidence and the fact things just didn't really add up. The thing about MJ coverage is great in my oppinion. I'm sorry but we've been hearing about troops getting killed for about 3-4 years everyday now. I'm glad at least we're attacking the right targets now and not putting our troops as sitting targets in Iraq. I'm glad of MJ's coverage hopefully people will listen more to his songs about helping the world out and just ourselves and our own kin. Note in the Fog of War that Mcnara guy stated the US and most major countries have all failed to help its fellow countries. That was what I liked about his MJ music in the end, him and Pricess Diana and Mother Theresa were more alike than seems at first. Talking and singing about peace and try to bringing healing to the children of the world first.
Even the former secretary of defense agrees with Michael we need to fix our domestic issue's of hunger in the US and in the world.
"What have we done to the world? Look what we've done"
MJ stated in his Earth Song.
Yes, how about those old people without medical insurance and health care. These are veteranss too! And we treat them like shit with our hospitals that charge $50 for a box of tissue paper and insurance like medi-cal for the old that most Dr's won't even accept. MJ was right, there is alot of work we need to fix our basic needs for children and the needy in the US and in the world. I mean I'd rather see 10K of our tax money go to clean up a river with pesticides that can keep 500,000 people in AFrica from going blind and killing themselves because a fly down there injects worms under the skin crawling and rendering people blind and causing them to commit suicide for scratchign all the time. Yes I'd rather it go to this than to goto AIG to pay some fat cat's bonus while alot of good people are losing their jobs!
