Throwback Tuesdays: Aaliyah "If Your Girl Only Knew"

It was eight years ago today that '90s R&B queen Aaliyah died in a plane crash in the Bahamas. The New York-born, Detroit-bred singer had far too short of a career, but released a plethora of memorable songs and hits during her brief time in the limelight. She was practically a hit machine, and while she only released three albums -- Age Ain't Nothing But a Number, One in a Million, and Romeo Must Die -- while she was alive, the first two went double platinum, and the third came close at 1.5 million sales. And her posthumous Aaliyah album was double platinum as well.

Those numbers don't lie. Aaliyah was one of the best things to ever happen to R&B, and in my opinion, her impact is still felt. Singer's like Ciara and Cassie, and even Keyshia Cole are constantly trying to borrow parts of her style and image. What was unique about Aaliyah's presence is that as she grew older, her sexuality was always subtle and never over the top unlike other fly-by-night R&B singers of the moment. After the jump, check out one of my favorite Aaliyah jams of all time: "If Your Girl Only Knew" which was like an anthem to teenage girls all over America.
