I've Been Listening to NIN, Slipknot, and The Raconteurs

• Hey duff i just wanted to let you know that if you like slipknot you should go check out a band called demon hunter-i think they're better than slipknot though

• the drums on 1,000,000 sound like know your enemy.....not that its totally orignal nin material but still....

• If I had to keep 5 cds to go on a desert island, Zakk's "Pride & Glory" would definitely be one of these, it's an amazing cd (I mentioned it already on one of the previous posts). Sadly, it was the first and also the last Pride & Glory...

• If you like pride and glory, then I recommend the next album of "Book of Shadows" by Zakk recorded in 1999. A must have if you like Zakk. LAMF and SDMF

• Try Zakk's first 'Pride and Glory' record that came out around '94 or so. Duff

• I agree, Billy--<i>Van Lear Rose</i> was amazing, as is pretty much everything Jack White touches.

• Well that can explain why I was listening to YOUR music since 1988...same taste, Slipknot, Raconteurs & NIN, you rock my world Mr Mc Kagan ! (I didn't receive a present when I sent you a video for LOADED, I'm saaaaaad, I guess you cannot send it in Paris....lol !)

• Right on ! The Raconteurs are a great band. I have been ripping all of my CD's to my PC and was listening to The White Stripes 'Elephant', that is also a great album. Another cool album is the Loretta Lynn album that Jack did with her 'Van Lear Rose'..highly recommend that one too.

• DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!! Jack White is the man. Level is an awesome song, although I would definitely suggest most of the other songs on that album, and then the entirety of the second album. Definitely look up "Carolina Drama", "Broken Boy Soldier", "Store Bought Bones" (I would suggest looking up live versions on YouTube, they do a lot of great improvisations live [same with "Blue Veins"]), and "Top Yourself" not much of a fan of NIN and Slipknot- the hardest rock/metal that I've enjoyed is GN'R I was fortunate enough to see the Raconteurs open for Bob Dylan, and (I don't know if I mentioned this before, but) I remember they did a cover of Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang" (The original is terrible song, an example of why orchestras only belong in classical music), and this cover was amazing. I usually don't remember how songs go that I haven't hear before when I see them live, but this song is still stuck in my head. Then, in July of this year, I saw the Dead Weather at the 9:30 club, and... I don't know... I might have to say that the Dead Weather are my favorite Jack White Band. Also- I saw It Might Get Loud, and anyone who loves guitars, Led Zeppelin, U2, and/or any of Jack White's bands will be in heaven. It's so great! kinda funny, because it felt like a "Guitarists Anonymous" meeting at first, then it just became porn for guitar players.

• &#64;AxlReznor - Yay for Sirens Sister (and your plug for them)! "Unspeakable Things" - the new album! It's been in constant play here at my desk, and in my car. I DO hope they won't be too embarrassed as I sing along (loudly) to every song this coming Friday for the Maple Valley Food Bank benefit show! "Sea of Claws" is my favorite. And "The Thing In The Woods" is very, very, very scary.

• The Raconteurs, cool. Jack White is pretty awesome, he's in a movie with The Edge from U2 and Jimmy Page, you might have heard about it. It's called "It Might Get Loud". When I was in L.A. a couple of weeks ago we went and saw it, it's a pretty good film. They all have their different views on playing and they all come from different backgrounds so it's really interesting. Definantly check it out if you haven't already.

• the Slip is great! 1,000,000, letting you, discipline, all great songs. 1,000,000 not to mention has a killer drum intro. simple yet cool

• Heey again! The Raconteurs/White Stripes/Dead Weather/Jack White in general - are really cool, one of the few really rock'n'roll modern day musicians.. Check out "Fly Farm Blues" if you haven't already. I believe Jack White wrote and recorded that in about half an hour for the "It Might Get Loud" documentary, which should be pretty cool too. Black Keys have a similar sound to that, though not as cool perhaps..I dunno, you might consider checking them out also. As for NIN, yeah, they make some pretty kick ass noise here and there;)

• I think The Raconteurs newest album (Consolers of the Lonely) was one of my favorite released albums last year. I mentioned in a comment a few weeks back that the Jack's new venture (The Dead Weather) was worth a listen. I went to a private show when they were in Seattle last and they blew me away. In fact some of the songs on the album remind me a little of Zepplin. My wife and I were lucky enough to win a trip to Nashville to hang out with Jack White and I was told he is going to take us shopping. We have not gone yet (waiting for dates) but I am supper pumped for that. NIN & SN just plain rock. Also went to the AIC show last week and the night was epic all around. The new album is a beast and I cant wait to crank that shit up.

• All three songs are great, there. 1,000,000 is one of the better songs from The Slip. It's amazing how much care was taken to create a quality album even though it was only going to be given away for free (though, I did obviously opt for buying the CD, too, I have a feeling most people just stuck with the free download). That man's a true musician's musician, with the quality of his output more important to him than how much money he can make out of it. Can't really say that about many people (I was going to add 'these days', but it occured to me that greed isn't exclusive to the present... otherwise there'd be no Kiss). I was never a fan of Slipknot until they released the Subliminal Verses, and then I became hooked. Even started listening to their first two albums, and realising how good they were and I just wasn't giving them a fair chance. I still think that the peak of their creativity is All Hope Is Gone, though. You've also gotta love Jack White. The Raconteurs were another band that didn't do much for me to begin with, but they're a definite grower. At this moment, I am listening to the new Sirens Sister album - Unspeakable Things - on Spotify. I'll definitely be buying it at some point in the future. I've also been listening to the Muse back-catalogue in preparation for their new release next week. And ANOTHER band I didn't really give a fair chance to until very recently... Black Label Society. I was surprised to listen to Hangover Music Vol. VI and find Zakk NOT wanking his fretboard over everything.

• Thanks for mentioning Slipknot, Duff. I just uploaded Subliminal Verses to our ipod library this weekend (our lame-ass laptop always freezes after loading one disc, so updating our library is a long and tedious project). Been listening to Slipknot and Stone Sour quite a bit lately. That Corey Taylor... my son's def of a "screamer who can sing" as opposed to a "singer who can scream" as defined by Myke Terry of Bury Your Dead (love that guy!). Looking very much forward to our rescheduled Slipknot show on October 10th out at the White River Amph. Think you may be in the UK around that time - but we'll hold down the fort for ya! Cheers!
