Duff McKagan: I've Been Listening to Gutter Twins, Spiritualized, and Visqueen's Message to Garcia
Visqueen, "So Long" (Message To Garcia): I listened to this CD last week on a drive through the mountains with my band of four grown men. "So Long" is an epic ode to heartbreak and heartache that silenced a car full of over-caffeinated men and perhaps drew a tear or two. Rachel Flotard and her band have written one of the best records that I have heard in a while. Period.
Justin Dylan Renney Visqueen played The Salmon Bay Eagle, Saturday, as part of Seattle Weekly's Reverb Festival. Duff McKagan is on Reverb every Monday and Thursday.
Gutter Twins, "Stations" (Saturnela): A great Sunday morning song or call to arms for humankind. Sorry if I seem a tad grandiose when writing on the Gutter Twins, but Mark Lanegan and Greg Duli evoke one to think and imagine beyond one's self.
Spritualized, "Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating Through Space" (Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating Through Space): This is a great groove piece to just sort of mellow yourself out with. I will put this song on if and when things get a little too hectic in life.

The twins are just great, along with any of Lanegan´s work. I have seen them live twice and they´re just amazing. Don´t know the others though, need to check them out,

I just picked up Nirvana's 'UNPLUGGED in New York,' DVD and it's fantastic. You can really hear Kris' bass playing, which is incredible. WOW!

I've been listening to old-school Alice In Chains (Dirt, Facelift) and Pearl Jam (Ten), because I do not listen to enough of either, and I'm trying to see if I like AIC enough to buy their new album, since so many people have been raving about it. Also listened to quite a lot of Iron Maiden (because I saw their "Flight 666" DVD playing in a music store).
I've been meaning to check out Visqueen since I heard Rachel Flotard sing on To The Glorious Lonely's cover of Prince's 'I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man'. She has a lovely voice.

I haven't heard any of these songs, but I've heard of Gutter Twins. I'll be sure to check out them and the others.
@Sophia
I really am enjoying the new Alice in Chains album, but you should give it a listen on myspace or some other music website before you buy it just to make sure you like it. I'm hearing some doom metal in there, especially in the track "Acid Bubble", and songs like "Last of My Kind" and "Take Her Out" are really good songs!

I am still so in love with this album-thanks so much for the recommendation, I could still kick myself for missing them when they were in my neck of the woods..especially since you referred to it as a "religious experience"!
Ain't nothing "grandiose" about your description...they are truly amazing and worth everything you've written about them and then some!
And now I must go listen to Idle Hands...one of my faves on there!

The Gutter Twins are great and for that matter anything Lanegan does is great. Duff, you actually turned me onto Lanegan a few years back when you were discussing him in an interview. 'The Winding Sheet' is one of my favorite all-time albums.

@Sophia (does this feel like you're writing to yourself or what?!) I will do, thanks. Going shopping on Wednesday so will try to listen to it on AIC's MySpace or something tomorrow. I've been told "Last Of My Kind" is the best track on there...

You're ipod must be synced to my ipod this week!!!!
So, I had this run on Sunday and both Visqueen's, Message To Garcia and The Gutter Twins, Saturnalia made the playlist. Though, for the Gutter Twins you and @MB are confused as "Bete Noir" is the track to fixate on (pun intended).
As far as Visqueen goes and "So Long" in particular, it was the last track to come up on the last mile of the run. Brutal and beautiful.
@Sophia Shaikh No advance listen needed! The new AIC is a MUST HAVE. "Last of My Kind" is my fall back HOLY SHYTE track for sure. BUT..."You're Decision" is brilliant! The whole album is awesome.

@Janean...it was a toss up b/t Idle Hands & Bete Noir I'd have to say that Bete Noir is my second fave (God's Children tops the list)...but gosh golly, can't imagine why I would like Idle Hands! ;-) And I thought All Flowers/Misery topped YOUR list...just found their Subpop EP "Adorata" It HAS to be awesome!!;-)

Janean says:
@MB @Duff Shit. Sorry. I take it all back. No wait. Wait. Wait. I only take back "Bete Noir," the best song on the album as awarded by the play count on my ipod is Flowers/Misery. @MB Did you find two copies of it???? And have I mentioned the new Soulsavers album? I mean since Mark (Lanegan, that is, we are not actually on a first name basis and I would not pretend that we are)is a genius and all!
Posted On: Monday, Oct. 5 2009 @ 6:26PM
MB says:
@Janean...don't I always look out for you?? ;-) Soulsavers have been mentioned but I have been lax in my purchases of more recent work by Mr. Lanegan (the man's voice reverberates my damn bones!) Since we've taken a left onto Lanegan Lane...the album "Field Songs" is absolutely brilliant...and you're right, he IS a genius...

Anyone here interested in Guns N' Roses?!! How 'bout Aerosmith? If you're not, ya don't know how to rock!
How 'bout a 2 disc set made at home by Axl from a show on the GN'R/Aerosmith tour? If so, see offical_axlrose on twitter.
