Few contemporary American metal bands have had as much success with faithfully channeling the influence of the NWOBHM than Mastadon. This year's splashy, critically heralded, Crack the Skye, was obviously their big commercial breakthrough, but it was 2004's Moby Dick-inspired concept album, Leviathan (produced locally in part at Litho with Matt Bayles at the helm), that cemented the loyalty of their slowly burgeoning fanbase.
