Zombies and Punk Rock Go Together Like Chocolate and Peanut Butter
It's almost Halloween. You know what that means: zombie walks. Actually, I'm surprised there aren't more zombie walks scheduled this month. Maybe it's because these convergences of the un-undead are now commonplace in all seasons. However, this one's actually taking place in the appropriate season and, unlike those "other" zombie walks, it ends with a punk show. Zombies should meet beneath the Space Needle at 3 p.m. this Saturday; they will then stagger slowly to the Funhouse for the show, which starts at 4 p.m. (and costs $10...what, you think being a zombie gets you special privileges?) What's especially awesome is how the bands on this bill are both awesome and come with zombie-appropriate names -- particularly The Dehumanizers and Toe Tag. Nothing wrong with Sledgeback or SMP, but their names just don't connote "zombie" the way "The Dehumanizers" or "Toe Tag" do.![]()
I do wish, however, that someone would get George Romero some Dead Moon albums, because that band has easily written enough songs about graveyards and death to make at least two zombie film soundtracks comprised entirely of their songs. Can't you just imagine a cemetery with a bunch of dead hands coming up out of the ground around a group of horrified-looking (living) people while Fred Cole howls, "I'm in a graaaaaveyard!"? And yet, as far as I know -- and I've seen more zombie movies than I care to disclose -- no one has done this.
