Four More Events to Support Haiti This Weekend

Whether adapting already scheduled events or hurriedly throwing together a show, Seattle's music community--from the Symphony to club Djs--is acting quickly to contribute to the Haiti relief effort. Check out the events below to both support local music and the victims of the catastrophic disaster.

Tonight, new Pike St. gallery pun(c)tuation and U-District's LUCID Jazz Lounge co-host an event to kick off their weekly jazz series, "Sound & Style: A Tribute to Miles Davis." Trumpeter Owuor Arunga-- a graduate of the nationally recognized Garfield Jazz Band who's recently gigged with Big World Breaks and the Physics-- will jam with mashup king DJ Topspin, interpreting Davis' work. LUCID's owner, David Pierre-Louis flew to the Dominican Republic immediately following the earthquake in order to enter Haiti to assist his family members that live there. The event will be held at pun(c)tuation (705A E Pike Street) from 8:30 to 11 PM.

Also tonight, the Seattle Symphony will be collecting donations for the American Red Cross International Response Fund at its free community concert of Samuel Jones' Benediction, conducted by Thomas Hong and featuring
Amber Archibald on viola. The concert starts at 8 PM and will be held at South Seattle Community College (6000 16th Avenue S.W.) .

On Monday, the Nectar Lounge (412 N 36th St.) will host a benefit party, "Haiti We Stand," featuring DJs B Mello, Vitamin D, Supreme La Rock and DV ONE. MC Sonny Bonoho coordinated and will host the event; he also chose the beneficiary, Convoy Of Hope. Bonoho has supported the organization's work for seven years, and threw benefits for the 2004 Tsunamis in Southeast Asia and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He says that before the disaster, Convoy of Hope was feeding seven thousand Haitians in orphanages; in addition to the workers already on the ground, the organization is putting together containers of purified water, food and medicine to be distributed in-country. "Haiti We Stand" starts at 7 PM; there's a $10 suggested donation at the door, and all 42 Below vodka sales will also go to Convoy of Hope.

Finally, on Wednesday, downtown favorite Re-Bar (1114 Howell St.) presents "One World: A Benefit for the Victims of the Earthquake in Haiti," with sets by DJs Riz, Recess (Shameless), Naturebot, Queen Lucky, Tony Burns, Barbarella and Robwhy. Proceeds will be split between the Red Cross and Wyclef's Yele Haiti, and all PBR sales will also be donated. Doors open at 8 PM, and it costs $8 (or $5 if you bring a non-perishable food item.)
