When Crusty's Pizza is on your tour itinerary, playing the Blue Moon is understandably slumming it.
Peter Kasen is a Miami-bred folk singer who once performed under the name Propel, not to be confused with the biofuel provider. He is currently in the midst of putting together a West Coast tour, and sent an email inquiry to Blue Moon booker Jason Josephes about playing the historic U-District bar.

Like many people, Josephes had no idea who Peter Kasen was, which didn't sit well with Peter Kasen. You can read the totality of their exchange--which is absolutely fucking priceless--on the Blue Moon's myspace page, but here's one choice excerpt (all sic):

Kasen: I have never had a venue to this point, ask me all these questions especially not in Seattle of all places, where I am very well known. Thus I already have a huge show at Comet Tavern, yes where Sub Pop Bands perform, and I will just look into Crocodile Cafe again, since you seem to prefer booking bands, and dont seem to look at my pages, to see my touring history, or current tour. You keep asking me questions for over a week now that are clearly right on my page, and on my press kit etc. I also dont usually book on myspace of all places, I have a national booker for that focused on the NW. So dont worry I wont bother you again, I will look into a much bigger venue, that doesnt ask me questions after 4 years of touring the USA, and sitting on 4 international labels, with distribution in tact! Dissapointed in your reply, I am far above small shows now, and get 200 dollars a night to show up regularly even in your city!
Thanks glad I cleared up my level, and position with you, felt the need to fire back based on your attitude in both prior emails, not really a good way to be with a artist at my size.

Josephes: Wow. I've never gotten the "Do you know who I am?" treatment, especially from someone I've never heard of. That e-mail was comedy gold. Thanks for the laughs, Pete!

Kasen: Thats why amateurs play your venue, and I am touring 2,000 miles for guarantees.
Your venue is not worth my time!
Dont take it personally, NO ONE KNOWS YOUR VENUE IN SEATTLE even my friends who are signed up in seattle on Barsuk Records.
Good day, Comet Tavern is a far far more established venue than some place we dont know.
Take care JJ, its funny you take 3 weeks to ask me my draw, and read emails ever 5 days or so you are the JOKE.

Huge as he may be, Kasen's tour finds him playing some of our favorite South Sound dive bars, including the 4th Ave in Olympia, as well as Jazzbones and Bob's Java Jive in Tacoma. He''ll also make a stop in McCall, Idaho at Crusty's Pizza , an iconic venue best known for its...pizza. Per Crusty's website: "Entertainment is a part of our success, and a lot of fun, but for us it is all about the food."
