The Murder City Devils are playing a few shows on the East Coast with Feral Children this weekend (Philly tonight, NYC tomorrow). I caught up with bassist Derek Fudesco by phone on Thursday to talk about his other band, Cave Singers, and their upcoming tour of Washington state (Bremerton, Kennewick, Olympia, etc.), but he had a few things to say about Murder City, too. I'll have more of our conversation for y'all early next week, but for now, here goes:

What have you got planned for the next couple days?

Um, we're doing a cooking shows. There's a show on IFC called Dinner With the Band, and they invited Murder City Devils to be on it.

Are you bringing along a special recipe?

No, actually, they supply the recipe that they feel suits the music. And then you all cook it together. It sounds like a good time.

So, are The Murder City Devils back for good at this point?

It hasn't really been discussed. I mean, no, we're all doing other things. But these (MCD) things are fun and we're lucky that we're able to do 'em. Things keep coming up and we just keep saying yes.

Do bands ever really break up, or do they just go on hiatus?

I don't know, sometimes they hate each other and then they break up.

That wasn't the case with you guys?

No.
