Also Tonight: Bassekou Kouyaté and Ngoni Ba at The Triple Door

Categories: Happenings

Malian ngoni master Bassekou Kouyaté is, without a doubt, one of the most interesting and dynamic artists on the Sub Pop lineup right now. Born into a family of musicians, he's been playing the ngoni (a stringed predecessor of the banjo) since he was a child in his native West African village, and he has since toured the world and shared stages with Bonnie Raitt and Bono. Tonight, he'll play The Triple Door with his band, Ngoni Ba, a group that includes his wife, Amy Sacko, in support of his latest record, I Speak Fula.

In the meantime, read Chris Kornelis' recent interview with Sub Pop founder Jonathan Poneman about signing Bassekou to the label, and check out this BBC video of Ngoni Ba performing in Timbuktu.
