Could Courtney Love Really Be Getting Smarter? She's Changing Her Name + Brushing Off Kurt Connection

See? She performed at Carnegie Hall. That's kind of smart.
Clearly, a few good decisions in the course of two weeks is no trend, but it's possible--just possible--that Courtney Michelle Harrison (neƩ Love; more on that later) is actually getting smarter and starting to act her age at 45 years old.

Numerous media outlets have been posting snippets of her recent interview with NME, which made the magazine's cover under the headline, "Courtney Love Is Dead." In short, the story includes two sort-of-mature statements by Love: First, she says that she no longer wants to be called "Courtney Love" and is returning to her given name, Courtney Michelle. Second, she claims that she's tired of talking about late husband Kurt Cobain, saying that she's "not his spokesperson on Earth."

"I don't know what he'd be like now, he could be into society girls, he could be into fat girls, he could be homosexual. We don't know, he died at 27."

These two statements, coupled with her recent declaration that a Sparkly Vampire cannot star in a possible Cobain biopic, seem to point toward some kind of growth. Maybe she's ready to move on from scandals that happened more than 15 years ago. Maybe--her issues with Frances Bean notwithstanding--she's going to start acting like an adult.

However...

...earlier today, Love's publicist released a statement proclaiming that Love isn't changing her name, "unless it's to Big Baby Jesus" and that the quote--which is actually included in a video on NME's website--was taken out of context.

Well, that was quick. Maybe this also means she is going to keep talking about Cobain forever and continue to collect on the success of his records and upcoming movie. Sigh.
