Duff McKagan: Summertime Road Trips with Queens of the Stone Age's Rated R
Summertime, for me, means driving . Whether it is on tour somewhere, or just the many drives I do over to Eastern Washington, I need some rock to escort me along the way and while away the miles. 
Duff McKagan's column runs every Thursday on Reverb. He writes about what music is circulating through his space every Monday.
Last summer, my daughters and I got into The Tinted Windows and Parlor Mob. This past week, I was delighted that my girls asked to hear Queens Of The Stone Age's Rated R over and over again. This record is certainly a top 5 for me.
"Feel Good Hit Of The Summer" - QOTSA (Rated R): I always put this track up to compare mixes of rock bands that I have been in since this record came out. A real fucking stomper. THIS is rock and roll, if you are asking me.
"Monster In Her Parasol" - QOTSA (Rated R): A bizarre mixture of musical parts that should not and usually would not work together. But in this case it is songwriting wizardry...straight up.
"Straight And To The Pointless" - QOTSA (Rated R): Manic punk rock as its primal best.
