• I'm glad you included 'The Dreaming.' We played with those cats about a year and 1/2 ago. Christopher Hall was cool enough to let me come up and sing, "Save Yourself" with him at our show. It was a great concert - great guys - great band! Good call!

• Hey AxlReznor/ Jo C, thanks for your views on the Joy Division subject it actually reminds me a bit of Nirvana and being labled grunge which if my memory serves Kurt wasnt too impressed with! Its a shame Ian Curtis isnt around today to give us his view as im sure he is the only one who could have told us what direction was his intent....

• I am the Gothiest Goth to ever Goth! The only pornography that I jerk off to is the record Pornography by THE CURE! Sometimes I wish that The Crow Soundtrack was a person so I could get it pregnant and make goth babies with it.

• @Marybeth - Do a Google image search for Sisters Of Mercy. I think it is them. They might have just gotten too old to be taken seriously with all that make-up. Unfortunately, no one told Robert Smith this. lol @Richie S - I'm unfortunately not old enough to know what was considered goth at the time, and as I said I don't have a huge amount of knowledge about it, so all I know is what is considered goth today, and Joy Division are pretty much thought of in the UK as the Godfathers Of Goth. Pretty much anything from the 80's with slow beats, a deep voice and heavy atmospherics gets lumped in with it. @Jacob I'm going to think the best, and assume that you were being ironic when you said Marilyn Manson. I'm a fan of his, too, but just a word of advice. If you ever meet an actual goth rock fan... don't mention his name in the same breath as The Cult. lol

• Richie - Whilst Joy Division weren't really regarded as Goth during the 80s these days in the Goth clubs atleast in the UK - they are very much part of the range of the music played - To be honest much of the Alternative 80's stuff has been dragged into the genre - so the darker New Romantics such as Depeche Mode and bands like New Order & Joy Division being adopted as well I love SOM but Andrew Eldritch really is full of his own importance - I saw them in Manchester a couple of years ago - Awful performance - I much preferred the tribute band Sisters of Murphy I'd seen 6 months earlier

• Lights go out is a pretty cool song. But I don�t think I could ever call myself a fan of Goth music. I'm too busy being part of the establishment.

• Hey AxlReznor, Would you really class Joy Division as goth? I do like them a lot but I never would have taught of them in that light.

• Hi Duff, Ive never really given the whole 'Goth' sound much air play but not totally against the idea and I must admit I did and still very much like anything by 'The Cure'.

• The collaboration of Ofra Haza and the Sisters of Mercy makes me quiver with delight. So much diversity within the genre of "goth" itself... I still find myself drawn to the ambient/mystical strains of Dead Can Dance and This Mortal Coil, dancing around my house like a happy puppy to The Cure and the Smiths, and putting on my stompy boots. ;) (Just saw My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult a couple of nights ago).

• While I don't normally refer to myself as "Marybeth" on here, I will for purposes of expressing my appreciation and gratitude for this awesome birthday present! THANK YOU ;-) @AR: I don't "think" that's a photo of SOM (Sorry Duff's editor, I think I know where you found the pic) but the Andrew Eldridge I remember doesn't look like that dude at all. When I saw them at Brixton Academy in 1997 he looked like Billy Idol with his bleached blonde hair but he still had his trademark mirrored shades. And these days I think he's bald. I have an internet sleuth trying to figure out who is actually in that picture. All this talk about Goth makes me miss The Melody Bar terribly. The goths were (and are) some of the greatest and most genuine people to hang with. Thanks again, Duff! You RAWK! ;-)

• How about The Cult's 1st album, Dreamtime? They actually started off as a goth band, and I think that is one of their best. I also like some Maryiln Manson too.

• Well... that teaches me for commenting before reading properly. lol Anyway, looking at that photo of Sisters Of Mercy reminds me of this hilarious notion that they had throughout their entire career that they weren't goth. Seriously... who were they kidding? lol I like myself a little bit of what's later been called goth music myself. I'm not sure if it actually is or not, because so much stuff tends to be lumped in with whatever was big at the time, but I think The Cure (their best album - Disintegration - is getting a deluxe edition reissue soon) are amazing, and Joy Division and Bauhaus (a band you've already mentioned here) have some fantastic tracks, too. Also, The Damned around the Phantasmagoria era, and Siouxie & The Banshees. Not a genre I have a huge amount of knowledge about, but with so much of the mainstream stuff in the US being so bad, it was these British bands that made music of the era interesting, up until 1987 at least.

• Hi!!!! Once I dressed like a gotic. I looked "The corpse bride". It was really funny........This music is not my favorite.... but if you ever play in one of these bands, then it will be the best music for me ;-) Hug from Spain
