Last Night: Yelawolf Tears Up The Nectar

Cloud Nice was destroying the "All The Way Turnt Up" beat as I rolled in to Nectar, immediately putting a smile on my face as I realized they were the openers. Jerm was in especially fine form, 100% the veteran, and Jarv Dee made me feel stupid for not being hip to his fire-spitting abilities any earlier. Helladope's "All Around the World" smoothly transitioned into "Just So You Know," and toward the set's end they were joined by the SOTA boys for "Extrahelladope"--reminding me once again how interconnected and awesome our local scene really is.

Making his first trip to Seattle, Yelawolf brought a crazy level of energy to the stage. Whipping his trademark mullet-hawk and aggressively taking advantage of a frenzied crowd, the Alabama emcee had witnesses asking themselves: "How is it possible that this guy sounds better live?" The center of the crowd started a vicious mosh pit--one Yelawolf partook in himself, and commended with a shout of "Ain't no pussies in here"--proving that you can take the boy out of the skatepark but cant take the skatepark out of the boy. His set wasn't short, but I still found myself bumping Trunk Muzik on the way home. As someone who goes to a lot of rap shows, I feel like I'm qualified to make one final assessment: Yelawolf was totally fucking mind-blowing.
