7 Year Bitch's Selene Vigil-Wilk Has a Solo Album On the Way
Hello, serendipity. While I was randomly reminiscing about the charms and talents of former 7 Year Bitch frontwoman Selene Vigil (now Vigil-Wilk), she was preparing to release her first solo project since that band dissolved in the late '90s.
Selene moved to California shortly after the break-up and subsequently married Brad Wilk, the drummer for Rage Against the Machine. PR for That Was Then (dropping via Tuck & Roll Music on September 14) compares it to Jane's Addiction and Patti Smith. I hear more of the former than the later, and I hate to admit that I'm not really feeling all the songs I checked out on Myspace. The production on "Blue Side" sounds both slick and dated, which is a shame, because her voice is still a gorgeous force of nature that would come across better in a less adulterated form. However, the slow-burning build and menacing cello that color "Soak" shows promise, and I'm just glad the woman's still creating art if it's making her happy.
