So, There's the Right Way and the Vampire Weekend Way to Cancel a Show

• this was crap my daughter spent 65$on a cab to get from the ferry to marymoore park and had to wait outside for the return taxi and got told she had to wait at the park entrance by herself only to pay the cab another 65$ to get back to the ferry i am verry upset and disapointed

• Of course, it IS possible that when a band cancels a show after a 90-minute wait it means that they spent 90 minutes trying to do what they could to go forward and do the show but then came to the conclusion that it wasn't possible? I wouldn't know, I'm just saying it's only fair (not to mention responsible journalism) to consider what might (and might not) have happened.

• Maybe the reschedule will be ANY day but Sunday... Also, why does everyone say that Beach House rocked? Their sound is a moldy seconds of left over second-hand goods in the last chance bin, the sound sucked, they need to ditch the drum machine, and the only real talent in the show was the lead singer's hair.

• See the band's explanation below. Seattle Cancellation Dear Seattle, We are incredibly sorry about our last minute cancellation last night in Redmond - the decision wasn't taken lightly. Ezra had some vocal issues earlier in the day, but felt like he was improving however, while he was warming up just moments prior to our set time he lost his voice completely and was unable to perform. He was then taken to the ER and diagnosed with inflamed vocal cords and the doctor ordered him to not perform for 48 hours. Even so, we still wanted to perform but by that point it was clear that any performance we could give would have been essentially instrumental and nowhere close to what we or the audience was expecting. We know you all had to wait around for the announcement, and many of you came a long way to be there, and again - we truly apologize. • To say a few jerks reacting badly to the cancellation news is the 'Seattle' way is just about as dumb as the way those few people reacted. Most of the 4000 people who waited, paid for overpriced food, drink, parking, and will likely do it again, reacted with quiet disappointment and left in an orderly manor.

• No band wants to cancel a show at the last minute. It costs everyone lots of money, makes fans very unhappy, probably burns some bridges, too. Perhaps someone was trying very hard to get well enough to play a very energetic show. Perhaps everyone was trying to get some decent info to the crowd before making an announcement. Whatever the case, there was no excuse for anyone in the crowd to scream and throw things like little spoiled babies.

• haha! I'm so glad I downloaded their album for free.

• About 2 minutes before the announcement, my wife looked over into the parking lot and asked "is that an ambulance leaving?" I wonder if the reason they waited so long to tell anyone was so they could get medical attention without having to navigate the sea of angry fans.

• I was at the show too, and I mainly went to go see Beach House (one of my favorite bands), but I was still really excited to see VW. Yeah Seattle, it was pretty dissapointing when they cancelled and they probably could have gone about that a better way, but the way people reacted was downright embarassing. Grow the fuck up.

• I have tix for the Portland show on Tues. night. I hope the trip wears off by then....

• We overheard a random guy walking around about 30min prior to the official announcement telling people the show was canceled. Nobody believed him. What is unfortunate is that if he knew then... why were we all left sitting in the cold waiting for nothing. Surely their management has a plan for these things. If not, you'd better work on it for the future. Have alternative dates at the ready and how people can collect their refunds. Simple planning goes a long way these days.

• another interesting fact; there was a family with a number of 4-8 year olds in front of us. about 30 mins before the announcement a guy in a yellow jacket and a backstage pass came up to them and spoke, then they all packed up and left. looking back, it was clear people out there knew VW were not coming on. the reason for the delay in telling us was probably backstage in working out which unlucky sod had to announce it! I have been to loads of shows and things go wrong but this was announced terribly. they should have announced it a better way and even had some of the band come on for a quick singalong, say sorry, that they will be back etc oh well

• Interesting fact, as we were standing close to the stage when they announced the cancelation,the stage had been cleared of almost all equipment and what was left was draped in plastic. At first, I thought that meant it was going to start raining. But then the real reason was made clear. And the second band, Beach House, kept talking about what a "treat" we had coming.

• I was security, had nothing to do with the cancellation.Yet we got bombed with water bottles and beer for nothing that was our fault, grow a brain Seattle.

• We drove 4 hours to come to this concert going 25mph on I90. I bought these tickets as a suprise 1st year anniversary gift for my husband. I think he thoroughly enjoyed that i made him drive over 8 hours for no aparent reason. That was a pleasant ride back.... Thanks for such a memorable experience

• True It was frustrating to wait sooo long only to be disappointed but how about we acknowledge there is the right way for audience to behave and The Seattle way. I'm sorry but throwing beer cups, booing, and shouting "fuck vampire weekend" is immature and uncivilized. No one enjoys cancelling a show, and I would urge any of those rude crowd members (and the writer) to stand on a stage and perform. It sucks VW bailed but it also sucks that the crowd acting so embarrassingly. And you know what, shot happens grow up and accept it. Move on. At least you were able to spend 60$ on a concert. Now the world finally know the Seattle way to act, like animals.

• India, people aren't upset about the cancellation, it's the fact that we waited over an hour before they announced it. That said, I'm excited to see the makeup concert still, and I hope they make it extra awesome. Beach House rocked the... house.

• I have to say I love this band, and ya it sucks they bailed on us, but I would like to now why.... They where fine at the 107.7 end session just hours prior. I blame an overdose. Either way when they are back I will go see em cuz I love this band....the OD thing was just a joke....

• They've done this all of... once or twice in a four-year career? If you've even been to a respectable amount of concerts, a cancellation is bound to happen- sucks if it's your first, but honestly, get over it. If you're that pissed off, stop going to concerts because it's the risk you take going to them. Real mature too of the douchebags who threw beer and cups at the poor guy who had to deliver the news.

• good one guys, Cancelling a show after people have been waiting for 3.5 hours, while you were able to cash out selling merchandise and food. Shame on you Vampire Weekend, I will never come to any of your future shows.

• yeah... Beach House was spectacular. The Dum Dum Girls were okay, i just didnt like how they were so blank up on stage, like they didnt put any passion in their songs. and I heard that one of them had bad diarrhea. not drug related or anything. I had seen Chris, and Chris backstage, and they seemed fine.

• fuck yea, beach house KILLED IT. dum dum girls were good too (but sick...but still played).

• I'm speculating a bad acid trip. I sincerely hope they get well from their self-induced drug binger too, really sad to see that happen to anyone... I would feel really terrible about tripping balls while I should be playing too. That being said, eff them, Beach House was the real reason to go to that show anyways and they killed it, as usual!

• I was there tonight, and was highly anticipating seeing them for the first time. Especially Ezra! I was sooo excited. But I was getting increasingly more frustrated as the waiting time grew longer, and was shocked and nearly had a heart attack and seizure when they told us it was cancelled. But as a true fan, I still support them and will be at their make up show. It just sucks we had to wait so long, and now the inconvenience of planning for another show to attend is among every fan who was dissapointed and still wishes to attend. I just hope whoever was sick gets well soon! They were probably waiting it out to see if the person would be well enough to perform. They must feel pretty bad about cancelling it!
