Arcade Fire Premieres Spike Jonze-Directed Video for "The Suburbs"

Categories: Music Video, News

After seeing what Arcade Fire did to my boyhood home in "The Wilderness Downtown," the Chris Milk-directed interactive HTML5 music video for "We Used to Wait" that was released at the end of August, I wasn't sure the band could top it. It's certainly been a banner year for Win Butler and company - from undoubtedly one of the year's best albums to their world tour and recent performance on Saturday Night Live.

Today they added to all that with the premiere of the music video for the title-track of The Suburbs, directed by Spike Jonze. This isn't Arcade Fire's first time working with the famed director, as "Wake Up" was used in the trailer for Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are. Beginning pretty innocently, the video takes some violent, emotional turns, while also featuring cameos by Butler and bandmate/wife Régine Chassagne playing a couple of cops.
