Some rappers are all about collecting cars and clothes, and others focus on stacking their paper, their women or their weed. And then there are the special ones, like local MC Wizdom, who love few things more than Christmas. One needs only enter his apartment during the holidays--covered in everything from lights and ornaments to LED-lit mini-villages--to see the proof.

To celebrate and share the cheer Wiz teamed up with producer Reminiss to create "December Skies," an ode to the experiences both as a child back in '86 and a 30-year-old adult. Employing a mellow beat that samples Nat King Cole classic "The Christmas Song"--even letting the song ride out for the final seconds--he expands from his well-documented sneakerhead tendencies and sports metaphors to expose another passion.

I asked Wiz to write a little about how Christmas was important to him as a kid, what it means to him now, and why he chose to make the song. Here's an excerpt:

Why would I do a Christmas song? Growing up, I would always get super excited once Thanksgiving hit. Nothing can compare to the colors of the season, the decorations on display and happiness that I felt. I distinctly remember not being able to sleep in much longer past 5 a.m., lying in bed with my heart racing, because my parents told me 7 a.m. was the earliest they would get up.

Fast-forwarding to adulthood: Christmas has taken on an identity within myself, with representations of when I was a kid. I always decorate the house the morning after Thanksgiving with any- and everything I own that is Christmas themed. They're all just scattered throughout the house; it's definitely a boyish way to decorate, but it suits me perfectly. During the holiday season I always try to do as many Christmas related events as possible.

The feeling of the season truly gives me butterflies. Christmas brings me back to days of innocence when I had little in the way of responsibilities and very few worries. The season relaxes, calms and soothes me. If nothing else, I hope this song can at least touch people who are stressed, overworked or lonely during the holidays. Go ahead and laugh if you want, but Christmas means the world to me for so many reasons, and I want to cement those feelings with a song: "December Skies."
