The Members of the Thermals Release "Tiny Hands" as Forbidden Friends, Not the Thermals

Last month, Kill Rock Stars announced that Hutch Harris would be starting a new solo project called Forbidden Friends. Side projects usually involve musicians doing something apart from their primary bands, but Harris' Forbidden Friends also comprises Thermals bassist Kathy Foster and Thermals drummer Westin Glass, so Thermals side project Forbidden Friends kind of = Thermals.

The outstanding difference from the Thermals is that Forbidden Friends has Harris playing all the instruments, including bass, guitar, and drums, while Foster, Glass, and fourth assistant Michael Benjamin Lerner are all playing supplementary percussion. The sonic difference? Not a whole hell of a lot.

Not that we're quibbling. The first Forbidden Friends' track, "Tiny Hands," hit the web this morning, and it sounds like a Thermals song--bouncy melody, minimal instrumentation, brief length, Harris' jumpy vocals--but that's not a bad thing. It's a lovable song, lovable being a specialty of the Thermals' these musicians, whatever name they go by.
