What's to Hate About Kings of Leon?

• Nothing against them, I just don't like much of anything they've done since their debut album.

• Like I've said many times about KOL,if you can't write,score,record and tour the world and be a success like Kings Of Leon then shutup,they deserve all the respect they get from the real loyal fans and i'm one.

• If you have to ask that question, you wouldn't understand the answer.

• Its almost inevitable that any band that reaches the commercial success KOL have over the last couple of years will invite ridicule from the hipster masses. Few bands can hold on to the "biggest band in the world" status for long without eventual backlash. Kings of Leon are in good company, as everyone from Bob Dylan, to The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones were accused of "selling out" in their day - long before they actually did. Such criticisms always arise when cult bands become widely popular, modify their established sound, sell their music rights for use in movies or advertising, or start to play concerts that are so huge, their original fans no longer feel the intimate connection they once experienced in smaller settings. I personally don't care how successful a band becomes, as long as the music continues to move me. But I have to join the naysayers when it comes to KOL and Come Around Sundown. I first heard KOL a couple of months before Youth and Young Manhood came out, and was pretty instantly a fan. I bought that album the day it came out and only a few days before I saw them play a side stage at Lollapalooza at White River with about 50 or so other people. I can say I was happy with each of their successive albums, and have seen them a half dozen or more times live since. I even enjoyed the evolution of the band represented by Only by the Night, which took a little while to grow on me, but which I now consider to be a great album. Unfortunately I can't say the same for Come Around Sundown. I've tried repeatedly to give it another shot, but with every listen I come away with the same feeling - its boring - uninspired and uninspiring. I have to say I'm seriously bummed about it, but I can't find a single song that stands out for me. There are a few that show promise, but, to a tune, I don't feel like they ever fulfill that promise. Due to the knowledge these songs will make up the bulk of their shows - not to mention suffering from a little of the aforementioned stadium disconnect - I'm skipping them on this round of tours. I know there are millions of people and critics who disagree with me, and I'm happy for them if they still gain inspiration from the band. For now, I wish the band continued success and look forward to their next effort, hoping they will change my mind again.

• The music snobs at my last paper in Nashville (love you guys!) ripped on KoL non-stop. But for them it was less about the band's music or its ambitions than the ridiculous things that sometimes came out of their mouth, like the time when Caleb Followill claimed he cured his anorexia by smoking weed which, in my ex-co-workers defense, is pretty funny, especially when said with a straight face.
