Today Reverb Recommends Taking the Musical Route at Conor Byrne for This St. Patrick's Day

Though I'm not sure I can fully get behind my colleague Erika Hobart's frat boy-bashing in this week's Short List, I can definitely back her support for Conor Byrne's musical leanings on this most Irish of holidays. In her words:

Of all the massive fêtes thrown by Irish pubs in this city on St. Patrick's Day, how many are music-oriented? Sure, chugging green beer can be fun, but the venues that serve it typically attract obnoxious frat boys and at least a few belligerent girls dressed in barmaid costumes. But at Conor Byrne, such patrons are ostracized. The Ballard pub is proud to say it steers clear of green Jell-o shots and Irish car bombs. This evening, it hosts a spectacular St. Patrick's Day sans petty nuisances.

The night's entertainment is headlined by a 9 p.m. set from The Whiskey Swillers, a vocalist duo of Adam Borkoski on five-string banjo, guitar, harmonica and ukulele alongside Jeremy "The Reverend" Summer on guitar, five-string longneck banjo, kazoo and spoons. But lucky for you dedicated Irish (or Irish-for-a-day), the bar opens at noon and Robert Sarazin Blake's Paddy Whackers play from 1-3 p.m. followed by The Erin McNamee Band from 4-7 p.m. $10 gets you inside for any of the bands--or just for the liquor.
