Avatar Young Blaze and Jarv Dee Rep Smoker Rap on This Haziest of Holdiays
Drawing from his recent Danny Darko mixtape--some of the best music from one of Seattle's best gangsta rappers--Avatar Young Blaze's 420 song of choice was the Minus the Bear-sampling "Please Don't Blow My High." Filmed by V. Hobbs & Niko P. in a downtown high-rise, a wistful Av looks out over his hometown and admits that even winners take a loss every once in a while. Even the song's name is telling--Av is asking, not commanding, a trade his persona doesn't make often. But with the help of a few bong rips, everything is made right: "All I need is my tree and my loved ones." In a way, the cold colors and melancholy vibe makes for a fitting Seattle song--where most stoner cuts are sunny and relaxed, this one fits into Seattle's sunless months.
After advising you to keep an eye on Cloud Nice, one of their finest in Jarv Dee popped up on the remix of Brooklyn MC Kris Kasanova's "Fucked Up" alongside Tennille (who got shine working with The Cool Kids). Over a minimalist beat, the hazy vibe catches a drum accent sure to keep your head bobbing no matter how much smoke you inhaled. And, as the song's name (and beyond-cool artwork) indicates, the track takes a more party-line approach: In Jarv's words, "Ain't no coming down, one-way ticket to the Cloud."
