Tomorrow Night: Lights! Lasers! Beat Connection! USF! New Music! All Ages!

Do you love flashy electronic things like lasers? Are you too old for laser tag but too young to fully appreciate the Pink Floyd laser spectacular? Tomorrow night, the Pacific Science Center Laser Dome has a beautiful night in store for you. UW's favorite sons, Reed Juenger and Jordan Koplowitz of Beat Connection, are playing a CD release in celebration of their divine new EP, Surf Noir (which is out today via Tender Age Records and is also one of the freshest, most exciting pieces of music I've heard this year)--their live set will be set TO LASERS.

The CD release show just got taken to a whole new level. Frank Nieto of 230 Publicity, who reps the boys, came up with the idea to hold the show at the Laser Dome. "The main reason I wanted to do the show there was because I saw Grizzly Bear play there a few years ago," Nieto told me this morning, "and I thought it was amazing. It turns out [the Laser Dome] is totally open to doing more live shows at their space."

For another delicious slice of Beat Connection, here's a free download of "Space Vacation," a rare song on which Juenger and Koplowitz actually take on vocal duties themselves--it's through a vocoder, but it still counts. Tomorrow night will be the first time they've performed this song live. Sing, boys, sing!

Beat Connection is sharing the laser spotlight with U.S.F.--the electronic duo of Jasona Baxter and Kyle Hargus--who will play music from their own new release, the EP Jamaica Plain. In keeping with the night's tropical theme, here's U.S.F.'s "Point Break II," a delicate, radiant wash of a song.

Tomorrow night's Laser Dome show starts at 9 p.m. It is all-ages and a scanty $5 at the door!
