Check Out Modest Mouse's Cover of Buddy Holly's "That'll Be the Day"

This weekend Liza Richardson of L.A.'s KCRW premiered Modest Mouse's contribution to the Rave On Buddy Holly tribute album, due June 28 (the same record on which the Black Keys' cover of Holly's "Dearest" will appear; contributions from Lou Reed, Florence + the Machine, Cee Lo Green, Paul McCartney, and more will also be included). Modest Mouse's song choice was one of Holly's first hits, 1957's "That'll Be the Day;" the band substitutes Holly's bubbly tones for their trademark dark dourness to a surprising effect--the cover version is slowed down, eased up, and actually sounds quite pleasant.
