Question for Duff: Can You Fix These 10 Things That Are Wrong With My Life?

• Well, you sound like a cool kid to me. I turned fourteen a few months ago. I use proper language too (and I actually know a lot of other kids your and my age that do). Except none of my friends seem to care about what I talk about, which is why I never talk, yet they all say I should talk more. But I still have fun enjoying the things I like, and I'm not going to hate those things just because they aren't "popular".

• You are having the same issue my 13 year old daughter has...  she is also REALLY into Rock... Heavy Metal mostly.... her class mates are into Justin Beiber.... she wears a black leather jacket and Doc Martens.... they wear the latest trendy clothes....  they hang out at the mall.... she play guitar 4 to 6 hours a day....  This is one of the hardest ages... as I myself was an outcast.... as Duff said... this will pass... and when you are older.... this will no longer be an issue... I LOVE seeing young girls being themselves.... NOT following the crowd...  and those girls go farther in life... as the choices you made now.... are making you stronger by having to deal more with adversity... which in turn makes you a head of the game..... 

• C, one of my biffles and me, obsessed with rock and no we're not the coolest of people but we do have the best friends in the world that help us bitch about the bitches, your the girl that wont end up in jail or knocked up. Me and my friends are like marmite, love us or hate us and chick, you sound awesome. I totally wish i was born in like the 70s so i could grow up in the 80s but im coping and may i just say it may be because i want duffs ass and no offence hes a biiiiiit old for me now, love another teen weirdoo but loving life xD

• You name is beautiful! Don't worry about it! Mine is Claudia and it means "lame" in Latin *rolls eyes*... plus it's the name of the Roman Imperial family that spawned Nero, Caligula and Tiberius... Still there are great people who have this name and yours too, so don't bother about it! Take care! :)

I've also been a geek all my life, much like an alien around everyone I knew, and there was a time when I was about your age that I thought about fitting in too, because not fitting in is painful and lonely. However, I'm in my 30's now, and I'm happy I never did. I have so much fun being who I am, and I feel lighter than I ever did when I was uselessly trying to fit in. Take heart, try to find your gang, and have fun with the things you love. Stop trying to fit in! Society is mostly crappy, it's just not worth it! Best luck!

The name Cecilia has come from the family of Caecilii. She is patroness of church music and music in general!. It seems to me a pretty appropriate name! • Duff and the other awesome people that commented on this: THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!! I would have loved to go to my mom with this problem but she's away with work and my dad is well a very busy man. And some how I can't go to the school counselor because the amount of times she says "don't worry it's confidential" actually scares me. I see I had some grammar and punctuation mistakes when I sent that so thanks for fixing that otherwise it would have cancelled out my second problem. @AxlReznor  I wish there were more people who thought the way you did but like most of you said SCREW THEM and no worries I'm sure me and my friend aren't the only ones who still listen out there. And about the friend of mine how do I put it subtly to the girl that likes him that our relationship is strictly PLATONIC!! • Really??? If you REALLY want to fit in, then watch the bitches* and learn. Make little adjustments that you are comfortable with. Go slowly. A bold, ill-thought out - fitting in statement will only end in tears and humiliation. High school. Seriously. Think of it like prison. No, worse, it’s like the waiting room place in the Dr Seuss book “The places You will Go”. How to survive it...keep yourself safe, keep your head down but your eyes open, find the like minded souls, suck it up and do what you have to - to get good grades (they might come in use if you want to enter another institution and a good university does NOT have to be like school), have a rich life out of school, let music light your soul, and keep reading. Watch John Hughes movies. * I agree with Lewis, cliques are everywhere.... but the bitches who rule high school are the worst - however that’s as good as it gets for them, in the real world they melt into mediocrity. Take each day as it comes. Dream. Know that real life begins the minute you escape high school. Be ready!!!!

• Cece, I'd also say that whilst having your own mind is important, human kindness is even more important. another thing that I've learned is that getting a chip on one's shoulder about how different one is to everyone else is not a smart move. It only leads to alienation, and that's even worse than not being in a clique, and it's something I've been guilty of many times myself. As other posters have said, everyone in high school is insecure, and going through a difficult time for whatever reason. Be kind, for everyone is fighting their own battle.

• Cece, Although I don't know anything about you apart from waht you've posted here, it seems that you have a mind of your own. That's something that you should hold on to and cultivate - it will be your greatest assest when you are all grown up. Now that I'm 'all grown up' (apparently!) I've learned that stupid cliques, filled with the so-called 'cool set' and thir spineless hangers on, exist everywhere. I've also found that these sorts of people tend to be the most insecure of them all, and expend an awful lot of energy on kissing up to the popular people and chasing the latest trend, and they also tend not to have a lot of time for things like human kindness and personal growth. Like a lot of people here, Ican think of times where I've bent over backwards to try and please the in crowd, and ended up regreting it (examples - giving up violin lessons, taking up smoking (which I've now quit)). So, keep on marching to the beat of your own drum!

• 13 can be the most difficult year because it's such a transition from being a child to becoming a teenager. There's too much pressure to fit in with cliques, especially when it seems like everyone is having a lot more fun than you are in their groups. But the truth is that everyone , especially at 13, is insecure and struggling with their identity. I love that you use proper spelling, Ninjas are awesome, Jaws is a great movie ( although Jaws 3 and Jaws-the revenge have a definite B-movie quality that is ridiculously funny), and I adore Lord of The Rings and Star Wars (to the point of attending scifi/fantasy conventions dressed in costume). The people who are nerdy/geeky outcasts in Jr High and High school usually grow up and do some amazing things as adults. And you will find other people your own age to hang out with that like the same things that you like. You've definitely got some support here from those of us who've been through this, and came out of it still geeky/nerdy. And, I know that it's going to sound like the same kind of catch-phrase that you will continually hear from your parents, teachers, and guidance counselors throughout your teen years, but stay true to yourself, love what you love, and realize that everyone who "fits in" is deep down is insecure about their status/position in their clique.

• Hey Sylwia, Sonisphere sounds great!! Good for you! It looks like I'm going to Belgrade, Serbia, to see Slash with Myles Kennedy on 31st July!!! It was one of my New Year's wishes for Slash to come to Hungary (you know who my other wish was...), and it looks like I can still see him, even if not in Hungary, but the country next door. I can't wait!! I totally agree with Sarahquil about The Lord of The Rings! Cheers to you all, J.

• You sound a lot like me when I was your age. Except liking Lord of the Rings was even lamer because it meant you'd read a big-ass book which was definately geeky. Honestly school sucked but literally as soon as it was over things changed completely. Mostly people got a lot more accepting, if someone finds out you have different interests they either ask about it or try to find something you do have in common. Of course there are still idiots but their attitude never seems to change and it just seems immature and kind of rediculous coming from an adult. I also found a lot more people who like the same stuff I did, which helped a lot.

• Here I am!!! Exausted but fulfilled after Sonisphere Festival yesterday in Warsaw.I'm comming around after ultimate show and music journey given by Motorhead and Iron Maiden!!! As what I dropped doing when I was young? Ballet classes and singing in rock band. First one I dropped mostly because of my mom's lazyness, she was the one who was supposed to drive me to ballet classes. Second one was so naive: I met a boy! He took the most of my time! And obviously, I had no dedication to music, that's why I didn't become a rockstar :)) Now I can be rockstar in my own bathroom :)) Cheers guys!!!

• You know what? Don't pay any attention what these kids are saying. I was never the "normal" kid at school, either, and I would've LOVED for there to be a girl there who liked rock music, ninjas, The Lord Of The Rings and Star Wars. As it is, I had to wait until I was way into my 20's before finding what I thought was surely a fictional female. It sounds like you're doing pretty well finding someone who is interested in the same things you are. At least you don't have to go through being "weird" on your own. It's also reassuring that there are 13 year olds still listening to rock music... it means there must be some life still in there yet.

• You put it so well about social silliness, Sarahquil! As for instruments: I dropped the piano when I was 14 because I moved to another town to attend high school there. Looking back now, I really don't know why I didn't try to find another teacher! Huge regret... Have a great weekend Sarahquil, Jackie, Sylwia (where is she, by the way?) and everyone else around!

• The percentage of people who actually fit in while they are in school is probably tiny compared to the percentage of everyone else.  Stay true to who you are and appreciate the friend who likes you the way you are.  All those other kids are just as young as you are, but eventually they will catch up to you and realize how cool it is that you don't let everyone else decide what you like or don't like.

• Cece, you are a very unique person, you can be proud of yourself!  I like you use proper spelling and prefer rock music. In my opinion you better have one good friend to spend your time with than a bunch of "vague friends" who do not appreciate you for who you are. Wish you all the best and hope you will have a lot of quality time with your friend.

• That is the age when I dropped the cello.  I remember I was on vacation in Victoria Canada and convinced my mom that  I would be the butt of jokes, for running with the geeky symphony crowd at my junior high.  To this day I cry with remorse when I listen to classical music or attend the symphony.  The biggest regret a person will have later in life about their school years, is the day they tried to fit in, I think.   And once you graduate you will really crack up when you realize that all that social silliness is just that silly and has nothing to do do with who you really are or the real world.I vote be yourself girlfriend! 

• At that age EVERYBODY feels like an outcast.  Because of Facebook (and MySpace before that) I've reconnected with most people from high school.  We all say the same thing...  Some of the shit we were concerned about back then, means absolutely nothing now.  Although at the time it meant everything... 

• I guess I was quite similar to Cece when I was her age - yes, it was difficult to be an outsider, but I didn't even try to fit in, and now I'm glad I didn't! All those popular fashion queens from high school seem half as happy now as I am, and I wouldn't be in their shoes for all the money in the world! So, cheer up, Cece! Your time will come!! Until then, may the Force be with you!

• Wish I'd had someone tell me that when I was thirteen- okay, my Mum did, but someone who I'd actually listen to! I never fitted in when I was in high school (I'm just ending my first year of university and it's awesome)- I was always boyish and didn't care about the same things as my peers- but I've learned to embrace the differences- they make me unique and that's just so much cooler than being like everyone else :) I agree with Duff, wise man that he is, you sound pretty awesome Cece- don't change who you are just to fit in. There will always be people who love you for the person you are and anyone who judges you doesn't deserve your friendship.
