Jay-Z/Kanye West's 'Otis' May Have Less 'Bitches,' But It's Overflowing With Soul

"You know I thug 'em, fuck 'em, love 'em, leave 'em cause I" . . . want to cuddle?

OK, maybe there's a generation gap, but Jay-Z/Kanye West's new single "Otis," which finally dropped yesterday and sparked a monsoon of YouTube fakes, is a rather impressive feat. The single, from the much anticipated collaboration album Watch the Throne, pays homage to '60s soul-singer Otis Redding and his gentle ode to sweet, sweet love--"Try a Little Tenderness."

Though the song is PG next to Jay's "Big Pimpin'" or Kanye's "Two Words," it's humorous that Redding's ballad, which bears the lines "All you got to do is know how to love her/You've got to hold her, squeeze her, never leave her" has been pimped for 2011 to contain lines like "Arm out the window through the city I maneuver slow/Cock back, snap back/See my cut through the holes."

Regardless, "Otis" was the Billboard topper confirmation that everyone was looking for.

The upbeat, brazen track features two of hip-hop's most swag, complementing each other's flow and style with quick, conversational lines like "Last week I was in my other other Benz/Throw your diamonds up cause we in this bitch and up again" by Kanye, in which Hova responds, "Photo shoot fresh, looking like wealth/I'm 'bout to call the paparazzi on myself."

Even with the slow, bubbling beat and energetic keyboards, topped with top-notch delivery by Jay and Kay, it's Redding in the background that gives the single its true life and flair.

"Sounds so soulful, don't you agree?"

Yes, Jay. It does.
