On September 24, 1991, Nirvana's Nevermind was unleashed upon the world; twenty years later, Experience Music Project has a huge celebration planned to fete the album's anniversary. Nirvana's Nevermind Turns 20 at EMP will run from September 20-25; here's a breakdown of all the action by day:

When: Tuesday, September 20, 9 p.m.
What/Where/Why: Nevermind Live in Sky Church: A Benefit Show for Susie Tennant--Krist Novoselic leads the pack of local musicians tapped to perform every song off Nevermind; other performers include The Fastbacks, Visqueen, Champagne Champagne, Tacocat, Crypts, Vendetta Red, The Long Winters, Ravenna Woods, Vaporland (ex-Love Battery, the Fluid, TAD), Valis (ex-Screaming Trees), Campfire OK, and more to be announced. The event also includes a silent auction--proceeds from that and the night's ticket sales (tickets are $20 or $15 for EMP members) will benefit Susie Tennant, who served as Geffen Records' Northwest rep in the '90s and was recently diagnosed with cancer.

When: Tuesday, September 20, 6:30 p.m.
What/Where/Why: Breaking Nevermind: A panel discussion curated by EMP's Jacob McMurray who will speak with some of Nevermind's as yet unannounced behind-the-scenes players. The panel will be held at JBL Theater; tickets are $8 or $5 for EMP members.

When: Saturday, September 24, 7:30 p.m.
What/Where/Why: World Premiere Screening of Nirvana: Live at the Paramount:

Five weeks after releasing what was to become the seminal album of a generation, Nirvana was on a nationwide club and small theatre tour that brought them to Seattle's Paramount Theatre for a very special Halloween 1991 homecoming show. Launching the nineteen song set with a brilliant cover of the Vaselines' "Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam," the band tears through Nevermind hits like "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Lithium" and "Breed," plus earlier favorites like "School," "Love Buzz" and "About A Girl" and a very early version of "Rape Me." The Paramount concert is the only show ever shot of the band on 16mm film and has been mixed in 5.1 surround sound and stereo from the original multi-tracks. Nirvana: Live at the Paramount will be shown on EMP's new 33' x 60' LED video wall that supports better-than-HD image quality.
This Sky Church event is free, but advance reservations are required.

When: Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25, 2 p.m.
What/Where/Why: Classic Albums: Nirvana - Nevermind Screening--EMP's JBL Theater will show this 70-minute documentary directed by Bob Smeaton that includes interviews with Butch Vig, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, Sub Pop's Jonathan Poneman, Thurston Moore, and Steve Diggle of The Buzzcocks. The screenings are free, and seating is first-come, first-serve.
