Today Reverb Recommends Curing Your Queens of the Stone Age Hangover With the Mellow Ambience of Sub Pop's Tiny Vipers

Still nursing that Queens of the Stone Age hangover from last night at the Showbox? Then tonight's tomorrow's performance at Tractor Tavern might be just what the doctor ordered. [The show is most definitely tomorrow, August 2, but we still recommend picking up your tickets today!]

Tiny Vipers, Seattle's own acoustic singer Jesy Fortino, promises a spoonful of hauntingly smooth vocals and ambient guitar, but not at the cost of sounding repetitive or tongue-in-cheek.

Songs like "Forest on Fire" and "Dreamer" are slow and without forceful immediate grandeur, opting to build upon themselves, layer by layer, instead of all at once like a radio-ready acoustic-pop ballad built on a single catchy chorus and a few repetitive chords. Fortino creates a serene mood by controlling the tension and release at every moment--notes are bent and flattened, while off-key static hums in the background.

Though there isn't an onslaught of new material to absorb--Fortino's last album, Life on Earth, was released in July 2009 on Sub Pop--her songs have developed an abstract life of their own, and tonight's show is sure to be perfect for anyone looking to slow down and mellow out.
