• Hey, I was raised Catholic, most of my most treasured pleasures induce rabid guilt. Sometimes though I openly love music other people just haven't discovered as being truly good yet -- people laugh at my early Bee Gees collection when they come by the apartment, or the first Alarm EP, but I have no guilt for 'em because I know people who heard them at the time with good taste can justify their artfulness. Then again, I have smart pals who know Steely Dan are incredible -- but I grew up hating hearing them so ubiquitously on AM, and still feel strange playing the hell out of "Aja" when I'm sipping "Scotch whiskey all night long." That twinge of shame is enflamed when my punk rock wife comes home, hears "Peg," and roars, "What's this shit?!" Which means I have to take it off, wipe the vinyl off, and put it away (ahem).
