Jeff Tweedy Says Wilco's Worst Show Ever Was Following Arcade Fire at Sasquatch! 2005

• I saw Wilco KILL in Rio de Janeiro, also in 2005 and also after the then rookies AF.

• At the end of Wilco’s first-rate Metropolis concert Sunday night, as he teased out the stinging intro to I’m the Man Who Loves You, frontman Jeff Tweedy tried to give the people what they want.“Last time we were here, did Glenn (Kotche) stand on his drums? Do you want him to?”Cue Kotche’s adamant refusal to strike his very un-Wilco rock-god pose that used to usher in the song, then a round of boos from the crowd, then Kotche’s attempt to placate fans with some gong bashing, then a round of boos from Tweedy. Finally, Kotche went for it — mouth agape, sticks aloft and drum stool in danger of overturning.

• i was there and they were proably who i wanted to see most that day, along with kanye.  wasn't my first time seeing them so it wasn't too crushing.  but yeah, i remember they cut the set short, were visibly frustrated onstage (but kept it cool and quiet, pros that they are), and that most of the issues were guitar related,  i think the vocals were fine.  take a song like "spiders" from a ghost is born (the record they were touring behind), the tune is basically a 7 minute guitar solo with a few verses, and at least 4-5 minutes of those 7 didn't come off.  not the worst show i've seen, but definitely not the best either.

• I was at the 05 set and Wilco was one of the bands I was most excited to see. Unfortunately, the set was miserable and made me reluctant to see them for years afterward (something I've since gotten over).

• I like Wilco and I remember napping through that post-AF set. Tweedy mentioned it at Sasquatch this year, too.

• I was at that set and funny enough it was the set that made me like Wilco. Actually, it was the only Wilco set that I did like. I don't recall any sound issues. But it was hotter than hell out that year. And Tweedy is accurate when he described Arcade Fire as Cirque du Soliel. Those guys were climbing all over the place on stage, wearing helmets, hitting each other with mallets and doing other wacky antics.
