Liveblogging About That Six-Hour Flaming Lips Song: The First Two Hours!

Flaming Lips Strobotrip Toy--Exclusive Release of
Listen along here IF YOU HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE.

Last night I decided to listen to the first leg of the Flaming Lips' six-hour experiment "I Found a Star on the Ground" and blog about it. To sum things up: promising start, followed by repetitive nothingness. Follow along:

Live Blog:

00:00:31 This is kind of catchy. This will be a fun treat.

00:18:58 What the hell is that buzzing?

00:23:21 Jesus, I could do without that buzzing.

00:28:31 That buzzing noise is kind of growing on me. It's dancing from left to right to left. I almost can't imagine what life sounds like without it.

00:37:00 Buzzing stopped. Things are getting pretty jazzy now. Like jazz-fusion jazzy. There's some chick singing something. "I found a star on the ground . . . "

00:41:29 Okokok time for a change-up. The Soundcloud sound-plot doesn't look promising.

00:45:26 Still grooving on that descending bass line/jazzy thing. Random vocals in places. What's in the fridge?

00:47:17 My phone made a noise, thought it was a change-up in the song. Nothing interesting happening in the fridge/song.

00:50:32 Building . . .

00:55:01 Building . . .

00:56:27 Taking a shower.

01:04:00 Feel like I should have missed something.

01:08:05 Wearing glasses with headphones is lame.

01:10:20 Voice modulators giving way to spicy bass line.

01:17:16 Seeing how other songs sound with this in the background.

01:18:14 Loading dock sounds, minimalist guitar. Spicy bass line has grown less picante over time. Can you imagine playing drums on this track?

01:25:00 Samesamesamesamesame[robot noise!]samesamesamesame.

01:34:20 Drowsy. Typing while lying down is killer ab workout.

01:39:22 OK, there was a fade-out, now someone with an English accent is listing people's names. Trying to Google some of them, coming up empty. Good lord, everyone has one of these stupid LinkedIn profiles now.

01:43:00 Shout out to this store.

01:49:40 Realized those were probably the names of the donors that gave money for that Humane Society thing.

01:54:17 Wouldn't say Velvet Underground meets Mario Bros. Just feel like they're filling space most of the time, like some kind of droning video-game soundtrack done by some experimental rock band or something . . .

01:57:22 Home stretch here on this first leg. Kinda sweaty for just sitting here.

02:00:02 Serious headphone hair happening. Bedhead imminent. Still love the Flaming Lips. Out.
