Rapper Wafeek on Amanda Knox: "She's Fine as Hell and I'm Trying to Holler at Her"

Amanda Knox has a musical admirer

Wafeek is a Los Angeles MC with a hilariously dirty mind. A few years back, he released The Aristocrats Mixtape, a reference to the legendary joke retold by sick-minded comedians the world over. One of the tracks on the album is titled "Die Backwards," and it riffs on the Lil' Wayne song "Let the Beat Build," by flipping Weezy's slick beat in reverse. In addition to caustically critiquing the fickleness of rap, the lyrics feature several provocative one-offs, none more timely -- in light of a recent events -- than, "Pussy like a murder plot/Like Amanda Knox/Like Pandora's Box."

Now that the Seattle girl the tabloids dubbed Foxy Knoxy is back home for the foreseeable future, Wafeek has something he'd like to say to her: "She's fine as hell," he chuckles. "I'm trying to holler at her."

As for his "murder plot" lyric, Wafeek doesn't have an opinion one way or the other about Knox's guilt or innocence.

Wafeek is totally serious.

"I don't know the details of the case," he says. "I just remember reading about it a couple years ago and thinking 'She's fine, I got to say this.' I wish there was a deeper thought process involved . . . but she's just really cute, and at the time it looked like she killed somebody."

A St. Louis native, Wafeek moved to L.A. in 2004 to attend the prestigious Musicians Institute, whose famous alums include former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante and Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo.

The Aristocrats Mixtape was released in 2008 and co-signed by the The Smoking Section, one of the hipper hip-hop blogs. Since then, he has dropped several quality projects, including a Fear and Loathing-style concept album called Letters from Coachella, a collection of time machine-inspired jams titled Feekee and the Flux Capacitor, and his latest, Monster.

He's been taking time off from music -- and mildly offensive jokes -- since his fiancée was killed after being struck by a car this past year. "When something like that happens, you start to realize you just can't say something cause it's clever and funny," he says. "I'm trying to be more aware."

Then again, he doesn't hesitate to opine on the significance of Knox's case in relation to other recent high-profile murder trials, specifically the execution of Troy Davis in Georgia.

"The timing just kind of burns," Wafeek says. "It's a certain kind of justice. She could be completely innocent or she could be Casey Anthony. I don't know. But when was the last time they executed a decent-looking white lady?"
