If there was any doubt that Seattle is the NEW EPICENTER OF THE INTERNATIONAL FOLK SCENE naysayers were silenced last night when the Grammy brass announced that both Fleet Foxes' Helplessness Blues and Eddie Vedder's Ukulele Songs had been nominated in the category of Best Folk Album (full list of nominees here). They'll face off against Steve Earle, The Civil Wars, and Gillian Welch (the one to beat) at the ceremony next year. Rock and Wool, ladies and gentlemen. Rock and wool.

In other NW-related Grammy news, Death Cab for Cutie's Codes and Keys was nominated in the Best Alternative Music Album category. They're up against My Morning Jacket, Radiohead (natch), Bon Iver, and the white-hot Foster the People.

Best of luck to all our local fighters.
