Gladiators Eat Fire Bends Genres with a Hodgepodge of Math-Rock and Post-Rock
Gladiators Eat Fire
Psychedelic Hogwash
Self-Released
Forget mutiny: Gladiators Eat Fire is paving the way for full-blown anarchy. Shredding nearly every preconception and stereotype about metal, hardcore, post-rock and math-rock, the Seattle four-piece's newest release, Psychedelic Hogwash, is a raw, tyrant of an album.
"Dispossessed," the lead track and first single off the four-track EP, builds with a distorted crescendo of guitar, unraveling delicately like something out of the playbook for Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Mesmerizingly talented, the group warps and manipulates time and key signatures, tinkering with every aspect of the music. The break downs are fast and brutal, and the slow, pretty parts? Meticulous and chilling.
Whether it's a 30-second bass solo that reverberates back-and-forth across your headphones, or snappy, staccato jungle drums that add a pinch of zest, the group never stops. Not once.
Gladiators Eat Fire will be performing the leak party for Psychedelic Hogwash on Dec. 10 at Rendezvous Jewelbox Theatre.
